I’m sure you have some expectations about what a support group is. We all have some preconceived notions that support groups are where people come together to tell their deepest, darkest troubles.
But our groups are a little different. Yes, we welcome all of the emotions, but we also have groups to build community between moms and help you find support in one another. Motherhood can be lonely, and getting together with other moms who are going through similar struggles can be helpful.
I’ve met some of my closest friends through support groups at Postpartum Support Charleston. Making friends, knowing you aren’t doing motherhood alone, and being able to connect with other mothers is priceless.
Not only are you doing this for your mental health, but for your baby. If we can take care of ourselves, provide community for ourselves, then we will be able to better respond to our baby’s needs. Take time for yourself so that you can fill your cup and be the mom YOU want to be for your little ones.
We have recently changed up our groups, adding a few new ones and keeping some of the older ones. Take a look at our list of groups that we would love to have you at. (This list is up to date for Fall 2023. Please check our website for up-to-date support groups and to sign up)
Virtual Therapist Led Support Groups
This group is made for mamas who want to join a support group but might not have the time during the week or might not be able to leave the house. We start the group with a chat about what brought us all to the group that week, and let the conversation go where it needs to. Sometimes we talk about our babies, and sometimes we talk about ourselves, but we always leave feeling a little more supported.

Walk and Play at Wannamaker
Did you know that studies have shown that walking under a tree canopy can reduce postpartum depression? This group walks along a paved path in the shaded trails of Wannamaker Park in North Charleston. We walk 1-2 miles and then gather at the playground to chat more. Plus, we always bring a startbucks drink for each mom who signs up – what could be better!?

Our team of moms have created a class to help ease this transition for you and your partner, focusing on comprehensive planning for the postpartum period, ensuring a smoother adaptation to your new role as parents.
Postpartum Planning Class – 4th Monday of each month at 6 pm
We would love to have you at our support groups. I know that, from personal experience, support groups can make a world of difference. Connecting with other moms might seem difficult and awkward at first, but you gain more from it than you could imagine.
Let’s support each other – mom to mom. See you at a group!
