Thanksgiving is here. Time to set all of our worries aside and bring to mind everything we are thankful for.

Easier said than done.

But one thing I can be sure that everyone at Postpartum Support Charleston is thankful for is our Mom Mentors.

Now, if you don’t know what and who our Mom Mentors are, let me fill you in. These wonderful ladies are volunteers who have experienced maternal mental illnesses and now offer their support and guidance to those moms who are struggling. As both a mother who has benefited from and been a Mom Mentor, I can say that Mom Mentors are the most amazing part of Postpartum Support Charleston.

As soon as we receive information from a new mother that she is in need of support, we offer to pair her with a Mom Mentor. After introducing the mentor to her through email, they are able to take the relationship as far as they feel comfortable.

Whether a new mother needs a quick phone call to reassure them that they are not alone, or multiple coffee dates and lots of texting, our Mom Mentors are there to support and encourage them every step of the way.

All of our Mom Mentors bring something different to the table, too! Their personal stories are all so different, as they have experienced and suffered from various maternal mental illnesses, and having this diversity is what makes them so special. We can often pair mothers with Mentors who have similar stories or have struggled with similar symptoms.

If you are in need of a Mom Mentor, please don’t waste any time and send us a message.  We will quickly pair you with an amazing volunteer and help you through your journey.

If you are interested in being a Mom Mentor and helping out our new mothers, let us know! We can never have too many Mom Mentors, and would love for you to be a part of our team. Being able to mentor a struggling mother is an honor and can often lead to establishing wonderful friendships.

This Thanksgiving, let us help you find something to be thankful for, because for a new mother struggling with a maternal mental illness, this can seem like a huge task. Let’s be thankful for our Mom Mentors.
