I’m sure you have some expectations about what a support group is. We all have some preconceived notions that support groups are where people come together to tell their deepest, darkest troubles.

But our groups are a little different. Yes, we welcome all of the emotions, but we also have groups to build community between moms and help you find support in one another. Motherhood can be lonely, and getting together without little ones can be helpful.

I’ve met some of my closest friends through support groups at Postpartum Support Charleston. Making friends, knowing you aren’t doing motherhood alone, and being able to connect with other mothers is priceless.

We have recently changed up our groups, adding a few new ones and keeping some of the older ones. Take a look at our list of groups that we would love to have you at. (This list is up to date for Summer 2023. Please check our website for up-to-date support groups)

Virtual Peer Support Group

This group is made for mamas who want to join a support group but might not have the time during the week or might not be able to leave the house. We start the group with a chat about what brought us all to the group that week, and let the conversation go where it needs to. Sometimes we talk about our babies, and sometimes we talk about ourselves, but we always leave feeling a little more supported.

The Mom’s Hour

This new group at Her Hive in Mt Pleasant is in partnership with Rome PT and The Baby Settler. We gather together for an hour in their beautiful indoor space and talk about our mental health, our physical health, and questions about the baby. Drinks and snacks were provided. Moms and their little ones under 1-year-old are welcome to join this group.

Baby and Me Yoga

Join Alex Bogart at her wonderful Ohana Yoga Studio in Moncks Corner for this Baby and Me Yoga class. You can meet other moms and find support as a mother while gently moving your body! This class will be held once a month.

Gather & Garden: Mom Edition

This has been a very special group for over a year that we have partnered with Charleston Parks Conservancy to offer on James Island. We gather together to do light gardening, bouquet making, and chatting under the beautiful shaded pavilion. Drinks and snacks are provided. Every second Thursday, we need your help! We make bouquets for our many Beyond Delivery recipients and we need your help making them! No experience is required.

Walk and Play at Wannamaker

Did you know that studies have shown that walking under a tree canopy can reduce postpartum depression? This group walks along a paved path in the shaded trails of Wannamaker Park in North Charleston. We walk 1-2 miles and then gather at the playground to chat more.

Yoga for Moms

Yoga for Moms at Wannamaker is led by Erica Winters and is open to moms and their little ones, but is a mom-focused yoga class. This class is held on the first Friday of the month.

We would love to have you in a group soon. If you are nervous about coming or have questions about a specific group, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us. These groups are just for you, mama.
