To say the Moms’ Run 5k Walk/Run is an important part of my life is an understatement. I can remember the first one I attended, back in 2015. My son was just over a year old in the stroller and I ran the race – probably the last time I’ve run that far. But I did it and felt so proud of myself!

And I’ve been every year since. Walking, volunteering and supporting moms and their families.

So I wanted to write this week’s blog about why YOU should come to the Moms’ Run. It’s not just about running the fastest (or even running at all). It’s so much more.

  1. BE supported by your community

That’s right. Come and be supported. See the community surrounding you and supporting you. Charleston is so lucky to have a community that cares and understands.

  2. Support other Moms on Mother’s Day Weekend

What a perfect weekend to celebrate Moms with this event! Come not only for you but to show other moms that you support them!

  3. Help end the stigma about mental health and motherhood

Let’s shout it out – maternal mental health matters! And no one should ever be ashamed or embarrassed of their mental health. We get it.

  4. Meet other moms

You never know who you will be walking next to, or who you might run into while the little ones play on the field before the walk/run. Get those numbers and plan those playdates, mama!

  5. Enjoy a morning with your family

Spending time with family doesn’t come often enough, so take this morning to be together and doing something that makes everyone smile!

  6. OR enjoy a morning without your family (come solo if that’s what you need!)

Leave the family at home and come alone! If that’s your jam, we support you!

  7. Talk to local supporters

We will have local vendors who love all things maternal mental health at the event to chat with you about their local businesses and how they can help support you!

  8. Let your child participate in the Kids’ Dash

Kids ages 3-10 can enter to do the Kids’ Dash – a shorter (much shorter) version of the 5K where everyone is a winner! Begins promptly at 8 am before the race.

  9. Because it’s fun!

It’s that simple. The Moms’ Run is FUN!

  10. Get your workout for the day (or the year!)

Whether you are going to run the 5k to get a personal record or if you plan on walking with no regard to time, this is a GREAT workout to get those endorphins and dopamine pumping!

  11. Help fundraise for our nonprofit

We are excited to let you know that you can create a fundraising page and ask your friends and family to support this cause that is important to you. All donations will go to this years Moms’ Run campaign, “Mental Health for Moms”, in support of Postpartum Support Charleston. Contributions will help provide critical resources and support for moms struggling with postpartum depression and anxiety in our community. Every donation makes a difference.

  12. Eat some yummy snacks

We will have finish-line snacks in addition to other yummy treats throughout the event!

  13. Get a trendy t-shirt

Who doesn’t love a t-shirt! Especially one to remind you that YOU are supported!

  14. Teach your little ones about the importance of mental health

In my opinion, you can never begin too early. Let’s talk about our struggles and normalize having discussions about your emotions!

  15. Be in good company with your friends and family

Invite your friends and even extended family to come spend the day with you!

  16. Get some freebies!

Be sure to check out the local vendors and fill your swag bag.

  17. Start your day off right (and early!)

The race will begin at 8:30 am and is located at Philip Simmons High School, so be sure to wake up early, get a healthy breakfast, and head on out! You’ll still have a full day ahead of you when you finish, too!

  18. Get your daily dose of sunshine.

Give your body a boost of Vitamin D with the sunshine you’ll get on the walk/run!

  19. Take in the natural beauty of the Lowcountry on the course

Wait until you see this course and location. Catch a glimpse of a beautiful white crane amongst the lush green landscape at Philip Simmons High School.

  20. Because it’s fun!

Again, it’s just fun. We hope to see you there!
